What holds us back?
We think we ‘can’t, we couldn't, we shouldn't, we won't'.
That is what is holding us back. Our thinking leads us to behaviors that set us in a downward spiral rather than upward one, each behavior reinforcing and encouraging us in the wrong (or right) direction.
Behaviors like:
EMOTIONAL EATING (hey, as women we all know this too well and at times we do not even realize we are doing it, but this sets us back. Our portions can get out of control). It only gives us instant gratification in the short term. Because we all know that when those pants are getting a little tight, there is no gratification in that at all. Actually, the opposite happens –depression and a ‘not so positive’ feeling about yourself starts to set in. What do we do next to try and sooth the situation? We eat more, and the vicious cycle begins. Only to be left with a weight problem which takes us away from feeling happy about who we are.
BECOMING SEDENTARY – The more we limit ourselves, the more we don’t take (and make) the time to move our bodies, even if it is a walk around the block. And we miss out on all the things that a little bit of exercise offers us, and how it makes us feel successful! It puts our mind in a strong place.
Remember the last time you went for a walk or exercise and the good feeling that it left you with? Yep, that kind of thing is really great for your confidence.
FOOD CHOICES – We often feel we make bad food choices because we are time poor and all there seems to be is an abundance of convenient foods. I’m not saying that it’s not okay to treat ourselves every now and again. What I am saying is that every now and again starts to become every day, every afternoon, every time. If we have children, they start to live the everyday too – not good for them later in life as adults.
